What is Genetic Testing?

How does it work?

Step one
Talk to your GP
For an initial discussion about your family history
Step two
Referral
If your GP feels a test is merited, you will be referred to a Genetic Testing consultant
Step three
Consultation
A formal family medical history review, information on treatment options, as well as pre-test counselling
Step four
Blood Test
A blood sample will be taken and screened for gene mutations
Step five
Results
If no mutation is found you can put your mind at ease and no further action is required. If a mutation is found, your consultant will discuss prevention treatments or screening options
