VHl, IMO and ICGP meet re GP participation in proposed VHI Primary Care Cover Scheme

1st February 2000 - VHI, the IMO and the Irish College of General Practitioners have embarked on a series of discussions regarding VHI's planned September 2000 launch of a comprehensive primary care cover scheme.

A series of meetings will take place between the three organisations over the next few months with a view to reaching an agreement by April 2000 regarding the GP cover element of the proposed new product which will include benefits for all aspects of primary care.

"The White Paper on Private Health Insurance proposes changes in the regulation of the health insurance market which will allow VHI to introduce a comprehensive primary care product in September 2000. This is good news for patients, VHI's 1.5 million members and GPs as this will be the first broadly based primary care product available on the Irish market," said VHI Medical Director, Dr Bernadette Carr.
