Vhi Healthcare's Sarah Lang For Liffey Descent

30th August 2001 - Vhi Healthcare's Sarah Lang is one of the 1,000 international competitors preparing to paddle their own canoe and brave the challenge of the annual "Liffey Descent" on 8 September next. The 17.5 mile route down Dublin's famous river includes ten weirs and several white water rapids.

For a novice with just five months tuition and lots of hard training under her belt, Sarah (25) from Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny has proved a natural at the sport. A member of the Thomastown Paddlers Canoe Club, Sarah has been involved in a tough training schedule with over five practice sessions per week involving a mix of both swimming and canoeing stints on alternate evenings. Despite this, Sarah, who works in Vhi Healthcare's award winning Business Centre in Kilkenny, has taken to the water with all the enthusiasm and commitment it takes to pursue an outdoor sport.

"I enjoy canoeing because it is a highly charged sport and every race brings its own challenges. I also enjoy the team element competing with my club colleagues in the various competitions. It offers a great chance for someone to have fun and adventure whilst enjoying some healthy outdoor exercise," says Sarah.
