Cork Seminar Series 'Managing Stress - The Key to a Healthy Lifestyle'
28th October 1999 - A VHI Seminar on "Managing Stress – the Key to a Healthy Lifestyle" will take place in Cork on Thursday next , 28th October 1999. The topic to be addressed by leading Psychiatric Consultant, Professor Patricia Casey is the nature of stress and techniques in managing and dealing with stressful situations. The Seminar will identify the features of abnormal stress which include impaired functioning, serious depression and anxiety.
According to Professor Casey, "Stress is universal and is not always detrimental to health, often conferring benefits to the individual. In the face of a major stressful event not everybody suffers from abnormal symptoms and this is determined more by the personality of the individual and their social supports than by the severity of the stressor itself" she said.
Approaches to dealing with stressful events and to symptom reduction will be outlined in the talk.
